Artist Statement:
In this book you will discover that the assortment of photos are arranged in three individual collections—Environmental, Architectural and Industrial. This is the artist’s intent as he wishes for his audience to understand how the correlation of his smaller collections can contribute to the perception of urban and rural businesses in the modern society.
The artist’s passion was sparked by a recent event that transpired in Brazil where two dams at a mine collapsed after a major flood swept through the state of Minas Gerais. The flooding fused with the iron ore of the mining company and as a result, left the water bright orange. The incident has left thousands in the state without clean water to drink and has further emphasized the destruction companies have on society’s environment and culture.
The artist’s first and last three photos in the grand collection represent the cyclic behavior of businesses, in which once a day is done the worker must carry out the same day as they did the last. Thus, the artist intends for his audience to speculate whether the last three images are the same or slightly different than the first three. In this way he has created a cycle in which his audience must start their journey again from the beginning of the collection.
The environmental collection aims to captivate the audience into the beauty and detail of the landscape, while playing allowing the viewer to tussle with whether the image is rural or urban as well as whether the closer or broader the image is changes the viewer’s appeal. The architectural collection then portrays the urban and rural corporations alongside one another by flipping back and forth between the two to attract a juxtaposition of emotions among the audience. Lastly, the industrial collection integrates innovations that have developed around the bustling industrial life, demonstrating its elegance, yet at the same time its destruction.
